VW addict ..

Hi People,

Just a  quick hello. I'm not a complete newbie on here.
I have been a member for about 5-7 years..its bin a while anyway!!
This should tell you how long I've been after a mk1.

At present I still haven't found "the" one, but still looking out for the right one to pop up.
There seems to be a lot of mk1's out there that are just to far gone or badly modified for my taste.

If anyone knows of a decent little runner please get in touch. Oh, after a 3 door tin top, preferably GTI. I should add that.. Don't mind about condition. Just a straight one.

I currently own a VW mk7 GTI which I've had from new. And its an awesome car.

I did own a MK1 driver when I was a wee lad (19) now (43)!! Geez it looks old when you right it down!
It was a red one with green striping and a full GTI interior. I loved it.

So now that I am (quite a bit) older with some spare pennies, I think its time to up the search a bit.

Anyway, thanks in advance to you guys.
I do log in and keep an eye out on here from time to time.
Its a great community on here which is credit to you all.

Thanks

Erm hi Andy

I have a worry that if you couldn't find a Mk1 5-7 years ago then being as they are much thinner on the ground with each year that passes you may never find the one that "pops" out at you

What is it you are looking for in a car exactly?

The mk7 is a great car and fast.
I had a very close run in my vrs with one a few weeks ago.
For their weight and comfort they are rockets

1985 GTI cabriolet black edition (42k miles)

Hi 1985,

Yes I guess I'm just a bit fussy.

There have been a few I just missed out on, out bid or sold before I could get there. So its not like there hasn't been any..

There has also been a few that were way to far for me to justify travelling to. I'm in Wiltshire so anything up north is a bit of a trek. I don't mind 100 miles or so. Like I said, I guess I'm just a bit fussy… Must be getting old.

Ironicly I've always been totally the opposite.
I traveled all the way from south kent to Huddersfield for my Skoda and have always ventured up north for bargains but my mk1 actually came from less than 10miles away

Luck of the draw I guess

The problem with ebay when it comes to mk1's is that they are something you ideally need to view first as many people idea of condition are different from others completely

Im sure something from Swindow or Bristol area will raise its head before long

Hi guys ,
So after my initial post of me trying to find a mk1 local to me and having zero success, I eventually found one and picked her up yesterday. It was an epic 720+ miles round trip from Wiltshire to Scotland.!!!! It was long but we'll worth it. I know people hang on about "barn finds" but this was a genuine true barn find found in a farmers shed where it had been sat for 10 years. And rescued by a local car enthusiast. She has 72.000 miles and 4 owners from new. Both keys, service books and no rot…! I feel lucky to have her. I'll post some pics up shortly.
It's a 3 door 1983 1.3 driver in red. Tin top.
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you guys and girls as we still not perfect and there are a few niggles.  But I love to get stuck in to fixing them.

Off the bat , the rear wiper doesn't work, heater fan is intermittent, and there seems to be water getting into the passenger foot well. There's also a hole under the hazard warning switch, I'm guess for an option like front fog lights???  EBD7BA14-08CE-4C7E-853B-F4B4C181106D.jpeg 4DB06795-0D0C-4204-A2B3-B64D38B290DB.jpeg

Lovely looking car, mate. Like you said months ago, it’s worth the wait and you’ve found a winner (plus you’ve travelled the country, too)

I look forward to seeing how you get on with it!

Adam.
