Parcel shelf supports

New owner of a rust-free 76' Golf LS, 5-door. The plastic in the parcel shelf supports has broken off in the mounting holes, so the shelf is not stable. Does anyone know if the supports from VW Heritage will fit my the earlier model? They say from 1979 and on, but I wonder if they would fit in a 1976 chassis with some minor tweaks.. Thanks
