what you want is a 9A bottom end from a passat/corrado or a 6A from an Audi 80 Sport. the 6A is 99% the same as the 9A but for a slightly different oil filter housing (to make way for an engine mount in the Audi as its fitted sideways!)
mate id stay away from the abf engine if i was you because its slightly more different to the 9a/6a's but its up to you.
you can pick bottom ends up for not much these days.
to combat the oil filter housing problem all you need is one off any 8v audi or the ABF mk3 and a few others can fit too
by the way if your gonna change the bottom end might i reccomend changing piston rings as its a simple job. you'll also need a new sump gasket as well as a new head gasket and two side gaskets. (if you really wanted to you could change the bearings too - i would  )
you could uprate other things like an oil pumps and water pumps but thats up to you!
its basically just a bolt on job after that!
if you need any more advice just ask mate
