im guna drop in a 1.8 gti engine in my mk1 1.1 ive got sum twin 40 deltoros i can source a in let manifold. but does the ignition system on a gti engine except dat change what would i hav 2 do and can some 1 list the items i need 2 drop the engine into the car  THANKS

this is my 1300 driver with 1600 gti power on 40's,i never fitted it so not sure what work was involved?i would of thought it would be similer to my 1600 setup.

Thats a lovely bay me ol china . i dont think youll need to change the ignition though cos its still gonna use the dizzy and ignition module , i cant say for sure cos i have never run carbs on my mk1 .

Can't see how it would be much different, so long as you can take a vacuum off the carb's manifold, then you can just use the same system, since the fuel injection on a GTI is mechanical and doesn't inter-operate with the ignition, unlike more modern systems.

when i ran bike carbs on my polo gt engine i was running elcetronic ignition and a electric fuel pump with a malpossi fuel regualter, from memory i think u have to run them carbs at roughly 3psi,

twin 40s

we are running twin 40 dellortos on our mk1 rallycar problems were I used a Pierce manifold which was impossible to fit until Ifiled out the holes so socket head cap screws could be fitted problem 2 no room for air cleaners so I used an alfa air box which was cut down and a sectioned 80 tube welded in it and a pod filter it is running 30mm chokes 180 mains 210 correctors  and 60 idles if I remember correctly it is a rocket ship in acceloration but very tractable as well  if you want some pics email me   Trevor
