mk1 20vt 02j swop general...........

I have everything ready for the swop to go ahead , just a few questions before i do it to make sure i dont come across any mega probs :

1. i got the gear cables gear stick/tower the lot that suits the box, obviously with fabrication, will the cables reach the box ok - too short or long . it looks ok to me. i was gunna run them under neath and widen the hole etc.

2. i got the full hydraulics from a Mk4 TDI golf, master cylinder complete in the clutch pedal box, the line from master to slave with slave still connected. With reinforcement of the wafer thin fire wall the pedal box should just bolt on shouldnt it with fabrication. The lines with a little gentle bending should fit too . Any one else done this route of simplicity. Ive read all these threads and it just sounds like they make hard work of it.

The TDI hydraulics will work fine wont they ?? ive done hundreds of clutches/flywheels etc on these they all look the same !! i see no reason why it would not.

Its annoying as i want to do it now but realistically cant do it till the new year !!! unless i do it over the new years holiday but what a rubbish/anti social start to the year !!

I want to throw my 020 box in the sea…………..

Sounds like a big job to me, But if your happy with welding and cutting I'm sure you'll come up with something. Have you checked out funksoul kitty's web site, she fitted a cable change gearbox to a mk1 scirocco (same chassis).

Where you planning on putting the master cylinder? you going to put it on the driverside then?

hey sorry for the late reply, looks fairly do able im doing it all very soon, ill email again when its all done. All on the driver's side. As long as its reinforced, welded and sealed poperly i see no problem.

hi i did my conversion over the weekend. All done now and its amazing !!!!! used a mk4 TDI clutch pedal box, slave and the pipe work and it fits really well. Re-inforcing the firewall was a simple enough job but it took ages to weld up. Took a while to mock up plates and to angle the clutch pedal. Thenonce it was all bolted in made a bracket up for the front of the pedal box to add more strenght. I made it so i can take the pedal box off, as those white clips that attach the master to the pedal can fail and if the master fails you can only change them with the pedal box off. Clutch pedal lines up sweet and pedal effort is silky smooth and light.

I also used a honda civic clutch fluid reservoir, i fixed it in the gutter area near the wiper motor as high as possible. The system bled out easy too although as there was no fluid in the master i had to suck it through the slave bleed nipple to get it started.

Really happy with the gear cable change to silky smooth operation , just got to put my new dash in now and my mega project is all done  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
