got a picture of them? if the wheels are straight and the tyres are in good condition, buy yourself a wheel polishing kit and you could have yourself a mint set of rims for less than 100 quid, i polished a spare alloy i had lying about in the garage and it came up like a mirror!!!!

I watched that auction too - mainly because I have a spare set of the exact same alloys, in the same condition! Anyone interested in them???

I've had 2 sets of those. They were optional upgrades on some Mk2 Gti's (unsure of year - 88-91'ish I think). The first set came on my old black Mk1 (looked a lot like yours in the pic Paul !). Sold those to a guy with a Mk2 who was on a mission to equip his car with every factory option available (elec recaros, elec windows, central locking, etc, etc). I responded to a wanted ad and he offered me ?120 for them which I was well happy with
The second set I had came on my Caddy and were missing one centre cap. Went for ?80ish on ebay
Both sets suffered badly from lacquer damage. Every set I've seen has been the same. Water gets under the lacquer and results in 'milky' looking corrosion.
?60 sounds good to me - think you've done OK there. If the centre of the wheels is OK and it's just the rim that's damaged, have a go at it with progressively finer grades of wet and dry sandpaper. Works a treat. Be prepared to spend hours on each rim though……….

I've done a few bit of minor polishing, (Carb trumpets etc)

Got the bits needed from these guyswww.thepolishingshop.co.uk

Very good, fast service & online ordering :D

Jobs turned out OK, but reckon you would get better with experience, plenty of patience needed too. My 8x13 Alleycats are next on the list, should be ready for the summer!!
