Is there a point......
The basic engine is
2l bottom end
crossflow ported and polished head
fast road/race camshaft
motor bike throttle bodies
What I am wondering is what sort of horsepower/torque I would achieve with this setup.
Then what would be the result if I added a turbocharger or supercharger….
I am looking for a proper track/street car that I can use to annoy people with more expensive motors
I am beginning to wonder if there would have been much differance between the 2l engine and the 1.6 engine that I have removed that already had the ported and polished head and race cam if I had stuck the throttle bodies on that and then either the turbocharger or supercharger.

Regarding the first post, I'd say somewhere between a 2l 8v (done the normal way, ie a 2E or 3A with the non-crossflow head) and a 2l 16V (ie 9A or ABF). So, between 130-160bhp. Don't expect too much from the cam or throttle bodies.
You need to rethink using throttle bodies on a turbochaged/supercharged car. Think about it….

I drive a MK1 Golf GTS (1983) that is running a 2.0l 8v U-flow (cylinder head config) turbo charged, the car makes 180fwhp and is awesome to drive as a daily vehicle, strong reliable and ridiculously easy on the wallet.
Its not the big that eat the small, its the fast that eat the slow.

the great thing about the 1.8 16v is they're available dirt cheap, since all the mk2 owners are ripping them out in favour of the abf. i bought my 1.8 16v for £50, wheras you struggle to get an abf for less than 200 these days still

1.8 16v is a nice engine for a mk1, yeah it has a little less power than an abf but 139 is still plenty for such a light car as a mk1. couple it with a short ratio mk1 gti box and theres hardly anything out there on the road that could beat you. hell i had one in a fat ass mk1 cabby and there wasnt much that could keep up with me.

Sorry to hijack. I was thinkin of going ABF route, do these mate up to the mk1 box and what else do you need to complete the conversion??

apart from that mostly plug n play, just a case of deciding if you wanna run it on k-jet or abf managment, plus sorting out the fuel system if car wasnt a gti to start with

yup it sure does, main problem is the exhaust as the mk1 16v manifolds mostly wont fit due to abf being taller.

Cool, it's a GTI so no worries on the fuel system.
Food for thought, thanks…

Do you find that there is a demand for fuel injection conversions in the UK and Europe?
