Here we go.....

Hi all

Long time since last posting and my project has not really made much progress.

I have made the decision to go all out.

I need a car thats reliable and economical and I am prepared to cash in to do the job, and I need a smuch advice as poss while I am in the planning stages.

I still have my 2002 Ibiza 20vT (which will be sold to fund this project). I am working away from home now and covering about 600 miles+ a week. I have been running around in a 2005 pug 307 HDI which I should never have bought!

My plan is to use my MK1 driver as a base vehicle. I am looking to find a damaged Fabia VRS/Golf GTTDI or similar and use the engine and running gear for my project. Here lies the first question, I need a min of 130bhp with 6 speed for optimum mpg, I think the fabia is 6 speed or is it?

Next, which would be the best donor car to use? I know engine mounts need to be modified etc, myself and a good mate are tackling this, he has recently completely re-built 2 mk2 golfs and installed 20vT in both so is a dab hand at modification work of this sort. Is there any model that would have more suitable driveshafts/suspesnsion/hubs/brakes etc to be donated as part of the conversion?

Fuel tank and fuel delivery is a grey area for me..what needs to be done.

Is there anything I need to know that will cause massive problems during the project?

I'm not just dreaming here this project WILL become reality as long as the inevetable problems can be overcome but are at least to some extent expected.

I would love anyones advice and input that can advise on the above. Has anyone done this that can point me in the right direction?

Thanks again,

Gav

Good luck with the conversion, the vrs is a six speed box and is a great box and engine combination,i had one for about a year thought about this conversion myself , but went for the one with loads of info on it 2.0l 16v ,i have done that one myself including rebuilding the unit and it flys, probably
going to have to get shut of my daily driver (fabia1.4) so will maybe having a go myself in the future, good luck

Cheers, just looking at poss donor vehicles and worrying about engine mountings but the rest should be ok.

Pricing up a donor car is hard, could do with something rolled thats not reparable. There is a lightly damaged ibiza fr on an 04, same as fabia 1.9 6spd 130 bhp. 2850, I reckon I could get a better deal but this is another option.

If I can get cracking soon I will start a progress report!
