changing to 5 stud hubs

hi folks,

can anyone tell me if its possible to modify the hubs and drums to the vw 5 stud pattern (still 100mm pcd?), either with adaptors or by redrilling and threading. A local engineering place said they WONT as they would crack. I'm no genius but Ihave worked out that I could keep one of the holes and have the others re-done…. I have a cunning plan if this is a goer!

Cheers everyone .no skool like the old skool.

You don't want to mess with the standard item, it will fail. Better to look to the mk3(?) some of which had 5 stud as standard. I imagine the rear hub will go straight on using the same bearings. If it doesn't (I'm sure it will though) then use the stub axle as well. The front hub may need to be turned down to fit in your bearings, although again I can't see VW changing the bearings without good reason. So it's only the CV which may/may not fit, but I've used a mk3 diesel van outer cv on my mk1 1300 front shafts in the last few weeks so I'm sure it's do-able.
