Bike engined Mk 1!!!

Has anyone out there fitted or been in a bike engined mk1 golf??
If so what was it like and is it a lot of hard work to get it working?? :banghead:  A medium tune Hayabusa engine and a total car weight of approx 700kgs should make it a rapid car?!!

To be honest - I don't think it would work too well.

To start, the engine has to go in the boot as it is easier than fitting it in the front and running prop shaft etc!
If you look at the Bike engined Westfield type cars - they are not much quicker than the equivalent 2.0L twin carbed versions - They have better top end, but no grunt to pull em out of corners. Add to this the fact that a stripped Mk1 shell is probably twice the weight of a westfield - Power to weight ratio will half…

Personally, I think it isn't viable.

Check this site out though… A couple of bike engined mini's on there.

Thanx for you reply
Have seen the zcars cars, the minis look really good and go really well, but they don't weight much.  My concern was that although the golf is light it is not light enough for a Single bike engine conversion, twin might work but be expensive!!!

Seen a twin engined mini with kawas top of the range 12r (standard in bike form 230 MPH on the clock! And before you ask that is mph!) Looked quick but it was a while ago. One engine wouldnt be a wise plan and 2 would be expensive to buy and setup. No offence two anyone on two wheels (bering in mind while my un's off the road i ride a supermoto yes i am a L plate warrior! :P )

If you do go for it though id try and loose some wight to make it more worth while. What engine were you thinking of?

Hmmm I've been thinking this for a while. Personally I think it would be worth it. A sub 700kg mk1 with busa engine would go like stink! RWD and sequential shift… nice.

How about the spliced bike engine route. Radical amoungst others are developing a V8 (2 busa's spliced) so thats 2.6 litre V8 which is then possible bore to 3.0. So thats a 400bhp v8 that will rev to 10,000! Well then you could force induce or nitros it…….ok I'm getting carried away! There is only so much usable power:shhh:

In my opinion the bike engined route has got to be the ultimate. Forget this 20v t nonsense, shove in a bike engine or 2. At the end of the day there is so much more technology involved in bike engines just look at the ratio of horesepower to litres. On top of this they weigh less.

Ok I'm waiting for the torque debate………

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

No debate about it - That's not what a bike engine is about, once you get the thing rolling, you keep it above 6000RPM and you don't need to worry!

I'd love to have a go at a bike engined car, though I think the Golf is just a wee bit too heavy.
You could of course do some drastic lightening, drilling out all of the interior metalwork like the VWMotorsport Mk2 Rally cars! A few fibreglass panels and perspex windows - wreckon you could save about 25%
