New air filter, what u think??? PICS

finally got my K&N an it looks great :D

take a look… what u think???




just wonderin, will i need to tune my carb in any way or will it be fine how it is???

looks sweeeeet, as for a tune? it may be worth getting the fuel mixture adjusted, as that will be letting more air in.

Just another slight word of warning, if you have any running or idling troubles on start up from cold that will be the cause!!! the carb can "ice" up

think its the other breather hose that goes to the standard air box mate, looks neat with the diddy filter on

yehh its a crankcase breather, it just lets the engine oil breath basicly

bit alarming when u first look when its running an its smoking, i had to call my mate thats a mechanic just to make sure an he says its normal 8)

only problem is its halfords special (ripspeed) i had to purchase it with my face hidden cause of the shame  :oops:

Worth checking…..and sorry to spoil the fun……but I think crankcase breathers that breathe directly (or through a filter) to atmosphere are an instant MoT failure on emissions, basically its nothing but hydrocarbons going striaght to atmosphere.

mine passed with a small filter on the crankcase breather, so did my mate's, coincidentally with the same filter :lol:

Dont see why it would be a problem on these cars anyway, emmisions are measured through the exhaust gasses!! theres no ECU, no cat, no lambda sensor so its hardly Green is it! (apart from colour :wink: )

everything barring Zyclon B comes out the exhaust of a mk1 golf anyway!!! so a few sump fumes wont make a difference…………polar bears can swim anyway :wink:

yehh they shouldnt have a problem with it, my mate that helped me fit it says that it will pass the mot no problem what so ever, its only abit of pure oil burning, topoftherange is right any way, polarbears can swim hahaha

That's the point, for the MOT the engine should only exhaust itself through the exhuast exit and not elsewhere into the engine bay, presumably as this is seen as uncontrolled/unmeasured emmisions. Also the oil fumes are generally more harmful than the exhaust ones, hence why they supposed to be recirculated through the carb before exhausting. Having said all that, I never heard of people having a problem passing MOTs with these filters.
