Janspeed Products
Janspeed are a well known brand and have been around for some time.
I'm interested if anyone has got any thoughts on their products - good or bad. Do you see them as a quality product, cheap expensive. Has anyone had any warrenty issues?
Cheers

I had a ford orion 1.6 ghia (sorry for swearing) and place a janspeed Exhaust (worth more than the car) made the car sound much better. I had it on the car for three years, took it off my mate then placed it on his ford escort for another 3years prior to selling the car with it still on.

Their Ebay ad implies that they have specifically race-developed their coil overs so when I realised they weren't even proper Janspeed units I was very annoyed. I looked into what they had sold me and they use autotechnix (iirc) units. Autotechnixs offer a white label service whereby vendors can have their own branding added. This is what Janspeed sell and I should have got - although it didn't even have Janspeed branding!
I picked them over hottuning due to their motor sport reputation and as they are an established brand but got an identical product at a premium.
They also arrived with the brake line locating tabs bent from poor packing, so the chrome coating was all cracked which will eventually = damp getting under the coating and seizing the coil platforms.

I won't use them again - and their response to my complaints about the kits was shocking. I was threatened with closure of my ebay account and hounded with phone calls every hour just because I left negative feedback.
I can't imagine them dealing with a warranty claim very well if it came about.

Re: Janspeed Products
You might be able to help me.I have got a 1980 1.6 series one gti.The car was owned by its original owner for 26 years.I have spoken with him and he has told me that it has had a janspeed turbo converson done roughly about 26 years ago.He says that the car has about 170bhp(it feels quick but not 170bhp quick).Do you know anything about this conversion as I cant find any info about it.

I have just found this forum, and put a answer on Nifty,s thread, regarding JanSpeed Turbo for VW Golf.
They did endeed make a conversion, both for Petrol & Diesel, plus the GTI.
I have collected all I could find on this subjct, so feel free to ask any questions?

I purchased one of their manifolds plus complete exhaust systems for my mk1 gti some 20 odd years ago, nice bit of kit and no problems and exhausts are what they were known for. Also sure i read that jan as in janspeed had sadly passed away so no idea who runs it now (family?) but probably not the company it was.
Hi abf,
I havent heard anything about Jan Ódor passing away??
last I heard was that he was retired, and played Golf 8) got it ? he he
Yes they made nice, and reliable exhaust systems, infact when Ford Competition department started using JanSpeed,s products, they stopped having problems with exhaust failure, on varius rally,s

so janspeed on ebay is not the same company as all those years ago!!!
maybe someone brouth the name or its the family trying to get it up and running again.
in the 80's & 90's janspeed had a very good reputation.

Kieth Ódor had just won the first race that day, and was leading the second, when he was envolved in a fatal accident.
The company is still going, and yes it seems they advertize a lot on Ebay.

Thats what i got confused with, remember now.
Yes that was a tragic accident, and the worst thing is, if he had driven a German spec car (Left Hand Drive) would he be alive, as a British driver he choose to have a Right Hand car, and it was the RH door that was hit head on by the Audi, such a shame.
I have heard that the racing team was closed, and Jan Ódor left JanSpeed soon after.
Lets hope there will be some kind of celebration in 2012, when its their 50 jubilee.
After all, it is the only tuning company, thats left of all the ones from the 60ies.

The manifold itself is great. The down pipe is a bit thin and doesn't last too long.
The one I originally put on rusted through and I struggled to find another for a while. I found out that Halfords were actually a Janspeed supplier, though they were useless and could not identify the part, so I called Janspeed themselves. Receptionist put me through to "Technical" and the guy I spoke to Knew exactly what I wanted. He gave me the part number and said " give that to the bloke at Halfords and tell him to order one for you…" (They couldn't sell to me direct). All sorted!
