Golf Mk 1 or 2 Soft top required for 1 day as wedding car!!

Hi,

I am getting married near Banbury in Oxfordshire in 10 days on Saturday 4th September. My fiance had a Mk 1 dark blue soft top when we first met and I wanted to hire one for the wedding day as a surprise. The man who had kindly agreed to rent me his car is not answering his phone.

I am therefore pleading with someone to either rent me their car for the day or to come along as the driver for the day. It will only be for one journey (from the church to the reception) which is a very short one. The church is in Shenington and the reception is in Alkerton, and these villages are less than 200m apart.

I will pay standard price for the hire. Alternatively I will pay for you to act as the driver for the day plus any costs of travel getting there.

Ideally it would be a dark blue soft top, but I will also pay for any other dark coloured soft tops if this is not an option.

This is a plea to anyone who can help me as I have been left in the lurch by this guy and would love to have a golf mk 1 for the day.

Thanks so much if you can help!

Regards,

Dan (07880 933339)

I could help, that is if you like my Rivage! it's not showroom condition but looks good with a polish! I'm only in Hereford, about 80'ish miles away.

Hi,
Thanks very much for your quick response. Your car looks perfect. However, I live in London and would not have time to come and pick it up. So, would you be prepared to act as driver for the day? I will pay your costs to get there and back and then pay you for the day as well.
Thanks again,
Dan

So I spent all week prepping the car for the by day. Whole interior came out for a good clean, NEW chrome was fitted and washed the car on the morning of the wedding. So when I got to the church there was a pub next door where quite alot of wedding guests were having a pint. Ideal spot for a quick polish! All glass got a once over, then the body got the autoglym treatment. Then one of the ushers came over and we ribboned her up:

The bride at this point didn't have a clue she was having my Rivage as her transport back to the reception. I hid the car behind some other cars until the bride was in the church. Then collected some champagne that someone had put by in the pub and moved the car to a better location. As the wedding party made their way out the bride finally saw the mk1 and instantly had a huge smile on her face. Everybody crowed round and I did my chauffeur part and drove them to the reception.

I waited at the reception for all the guests to arrive. They all had something nice to say, good job I polished her then! Then it was time to go, I didn't want to hang around even though I had been invited in for a drink. After all it wasn't my big day, but it was a good drive out and back so you could say it WAS my big day out.

Cheers guys, I've had a smile on my face all day :) now you don't do that every sat eh. What made it better was the reason why the groom wanted a mk1 cabby for the wedding car was because it was the brides first car. Even better, she said is yours a Rivage too? So her first car was a Rivage! :0 now that's a cool first car to have, and what a coincidence that I offered my Rivage instead of a normal blue clipper!
