do you remember your first time ?

what was the reg of your first mk1 ? maybe someone on here now owns your old car . friends re-united stylee, my first mk1 was UWF 317Y .  sigh , oh happy days………

mine was a boggo standard mk1 jetta that ate petrol, still fond memories though, brings a tear to the eye

not so happy memories as my first MK1 turned out to be a cut and shut mars red GTI JYO 514W. had some good memories until i found out when it failed the MOT so sold it to a guy who was going to use its parts and scrap it (hopefully) sold for about ?50  :cry:

The first one I drove was my Dad's Pargas Blue Formel E MCA 948Y which I wrote off soon after I learnt to drive (sorry Dad!). KYA 2Y was my first Mk1, an Atlas Grey GX. Fond memories of her nice body, but her mechanicals were a bit iffy. Both cars no longer on the road  :cry:

My First was A732 UEP - Oh, And I still have it!!!  :mrgreen:

The first one I drove was a V-reg 1600 in 1987, a right rust bucket even then, but I was driving a V-reg Polo 1.1 at the time and I was utterly gobsmacked by what happened when I put my foot down and we went past 4000rpm…. addicted ever since.

Saved like fury and bought my first one two years later in 1989, a Y-reg 1600 in Schwartz Black. Had to sell it two years later due to the insurance problems in the 90s. It cost me ?240 the first year, ?470 the second and the quote for the third year was ?1400, more than I paid for the car!

My first mk1 was 1600 gti silver PAF315Y with webasto sunroof and some rare vw alloys (smilar to porsche telidials)13inch never seen another set .
    I bought it off the original owner sold it a year later to fund house puchase

Yep, I had a black polo, think it was just below 1000cc, LMA 850Y. Still got a soft spot for them.

When I was a student I didn't lift the bonnet for about 2 years, and it just kept on going. I just turned the volume on the stereo up and let the sounds of Napalm Death mask the whirring wheel bearing and clicking CV joint.

First for me was a black 1.5GL, VRF 592X, back in 1990. Loved it!

My Dad's Lemon Yellow LS,  HYO 148W which he bought brand new when i was born. Sold it in 1992 but i never got to drive it!

The first i owned  was a Diamond Silver DRIVER, A48 PHK. Loved it!, real nippy and looked great!

first Golf 1.5 gl VEX xxxS paid ?600 back in 1988 LASTED 1 WEEK eNGINE SIEZED

Then bought VON 857S 1.1L for ?400 lasted 18 months of abuse from running with no oil to London ( 300mls) to driving accross the A66 with siezed brakes ( this killed it off)  :cry:

Brought my first Golf last year (XLW507X) and will never look back! only driven it for about a month now but I enjoy it more than any other car I've owned!

would be nice to get some history on it though! I feel a letter to the previous owner is needed.

First Mk1 though was my Mk1 Escort.. very simple car, nice to drive but was completely gutless (1.1L)

Still have my first Golf - 1.3 CL, UEF 357 X. It's in retirement, awaiting some welding (it's the right-hand-most Red one in the sig-pic below).

i've only had the one g952xpg triple white and i love it

my first mk1 golf i still have..cos its my first car..im only 17 and am learnin in it! i love it sooo much and am sooo lucky to get one which is cheap to insure wohoo ill keep it forever and ever...

did 233,000 + miles in it (speedo cable was broke for a few thousand miles), all over Germany, and Germany / UK too many times to remember
cost very little to maintain,
NEVER let us down,
both kids learnt in it,
used, abused, and they got MANY speeding tickets in it,
a drunk a******* drove into it,
some parts still live on in the GTI,
THE BEST CAR I EVER OWNED,
SADLY MISSED by all

I have just bought my very first 1982 Mk1 and it was owned for 23 years by the same guy, so I know all it's history!  FGF 953X
The only reunion it's gonna have is when I take it back to show him how good it 'should' look when it's had it's full monty cosmetic surgery
