YES! It is a classic hence this club, forum, and the rest of the MK1 scene!

Most insurance companies give discount on a classic policy if you state you are from a club - members here get a good deal anyway with Footman James.

If the people you are chatting to are offering 50% discount  8O  I'd say their prices are pretty high to start with so shop around.

At present we don't do certificates - may do valuations in future - not sure yet but if you become a member of this club you can show (e-mail) copy of your membership card/pack for proof.

Cheers
Andy

It seems strange that they are asking for a certificate that its a classic car. There is no definition of a 'classic car'. There are arguments for and against all cars that claim to be classics, the Mk1 Golf comes out reasonably well in most (not all) people's accounts.

I think you need to clarify with your insurance company exactly what they are asking for.

Some insurance companies will recognise a car as classic if it's as young as 15 years old!! Some state 25, others have pre-defined lists of what they consider classic.

Just because one company might consider a particular car a classic, doesn't mean that the next one will. It pays to shop around a bit.

Try lancaster insurance, they are a bit more liberal than most of the classic companies. OK you won't get it as cheap, anyone under 25 generally pays more for insurance, and this is the age most companies look for when you apply for a classic policy, but I insured my golf with lancaster on a classic policy when I was just 23.

yeah, i think 21 is probably the youngest they'll take. shame, people get tarred with the same brush, as i know not all 17yr olds are boy racers who drive fast, but unfortunitely insuracne companies don't take the same view.  I  hope u get a decent quote. try adrian flux, they are quite good for very young drivers such as yourself.
