Unless you had agreed value BEFORE the accident they have you by the short and curlies. They can let it drag on forever until run out of time or money arguing the toss with them.

£1500 + car back for a LHD seems quite a good offer from them.

Sounds reasonable to me.

cat b guys... it means parts only, non repairable. spent same amount just for welding and respray unfortunately

Even if its Cat B, its worth a fair amount - but only once broken for parts. Its a bit of hassle, you'll be forever making trips to-from the Post Office etc, and packaging up all sorts of odds and ends but literally ANYTHING off a Mk1 will find a buyer, so it can be quite a reasonable amount of money from breaking. Can you deal with storing and getting rid of the bodyshell afterwards?

I'd say that's a pretty good deal they've offered there.

I'd second that. I got 1500 for mine when I wrote it off, had to pay them a hundred to keep the car but then broke it for parts and made hundreds on it. Just depends whether you can put up with it sitting on the drive / in the garage for the next few months. It's depressing seeing your written off mk1 every morning. You will get something back from it tho!

i'd be happy with that offer, have heard of others on different forums getting shafted with their offers.. rarely anyone gets back money spent on respray and welding when selling on anyway.. good luck swapping the parts over

Its seems like that isnt a bad value from other simmilar threads i have seen etc, i am gathering from the damage did you rear end someone and you were at fault? if not a non fault company maybe able to push it for a bit more cash, as i had some good results with no fault claims for friends through companies i have used in the past. If you dont really want the hassle of stripping and selling on, the only other thing i would suggest is trying to find for sale adds for other cars between 2.5-3k and send these to your insurance company with any reciepts you have for work done to yours and tell them you dont want the car but want a settlement figure of 2-2.5k but in general its a risky business and sometimes when you do not accept offers they will just hold out and then offer you less in the end, best of luck with it, Rich

Ah that puts a totally different complexion on it, I too assumed you'd rear ended someone. Would also explain the initial quite generous offer.

Seeing as it wasn't your fault you could try and get enough to replace the car with one in similar condition so you are not disadvantaged. However this will still take up time and effort on your part.

Cheers for letting us know, and you said you would be happy for that, so other than car being hit in first place, not a bad result :-)
