How To: Fix failing wash wipe when cleaning screen.

Post

It's intermittent or stopped working altogether!

Right I've seen this problem come up often on the forum, so here's quick fix most of the time. I just had it happen on mine again in 3 and 1/2 years so here's what to do.

The problem.
The wash wipe and screen wash either work intermittently or not at all.

The solution.
Remove the two screws from the lower cowling on the steering column.
Carefully remove it being careful not to crack it.

Now if you look below the bottom of the wiper stork and between that and the steering wheel you'll see a pair of small brass contacts as seen here.

Just to the left of the key hole. As you can see here the contacts are dull and mostly likely not making a strong enough connection.

Again carefully brighten them up with a fine piece of emery paper or something similar. Now turn the Ignition on and try them again. If there working put it back together.

If not, you need to narrow the gap between the two without braking one off (they are thin). Very small pair of snipe nose pliers should do the job.

Test to see if this has done the trick and put it back together.

Job time about 10 minutes for solution one and the two together 15 minutes.  :)

If that doesn't fix it, well you didn't loose much and please forget this post and my club name!  ;)
