Thanks guys :) the left hand wire has the power plug on the end and the right hand wire goes to the MP3 tuner

Well knowing what the mp3 players wire do is paramount to you getting it to work.

Are the MP3 side 2 grounds and a hot, or are they 2 hots and a ground.

It is very easy to get them wired wrong, and buying a replacement plug for your Ciggie lighter would of been the best thing, but from what I have found over the years, is that when my kids used their Ciggier lighter power adapters, my cigarette lighter wouldn't work.  Because they spread out the Grounding points of the
lighter socket.

You can replace the whole socket..
You can convert it to a USB power socket.
You can keep a Springing tool to pull out the ground fingers on the original lighter socket.

I can't help as I have insufficient information to say what wire goes where… but if you have the ends of the original mp3 then you may be able to guess as to where the wires go.  It could be that you have 12V and a Ground and the other is 12V in to power the led that it has power.

I have a how to as my ipod charger doesn't work.
I have since installed Bluetooth Hands free units in both my cabriolets, both have external microphones, sd/ram and usb Charge Ports as was as a USB input to aux.

The sad part of doing the cigarette to usb port change was I had to all 12feet of wire and 2 gator clips so I could power my battery air compressor, and my Vacuum cleaner…. OPPSIE.
