I got them from Classic VW as they came with the steel insert as per the originals but they just will not fit… Before I complain to classic VW, can anyone give me any pointers? I can see the locating tabs inside the door skin, but my seals seem too thick to fit and also not deep enough to sit far enough into the locating tab… If you follow me..
So right now, I've got a car I can't drive - it's pretty much my every day car so I need it sorting asap..
Thanks in advance,
Pete.

I'm gonna think about taking it to a local auto trimming place before I bend a seal or smash a door panel in.. Frustrating because on the face of it, it should be a simple job but they will not f*****g sit into place at all..
Many thanks…

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. I'm now thinking it's more to do with my lack of patience and fine motor skills..

I had ordered new clips and when I applied my new outer scrapers to the oem metal I glued them with a fine line of sillycone, (black) and allowed them to cure. using the new clips one at a time I inserted the new scraper and slightly pryed the clip to get the new scraper assembly to pass the clip lip. I also used a bit of grease to ease them in.
On another cabby, the new rubbers were hardier and you totally removed the metal and the rubber slid in to and was held by the new clips quite firmly.
prying the dead out of the car.
Using the new tape to affix the scraper to the metal
New scraper held in place by the tape and the clips.
These were the older style that use the metal outer that you affixed the scraper to the old metal with two way stickie tape….same tape that you could use from a Window kit.
Old style of scraper installed.

It's a tricky job,
I used a short block of wood, about 100mm long - placed on top of the seal, then a sharp hit with a small hammer. The "tangs" on the clips can snap off so they don't work. Next time I will replace the clips first with new ones…
Good luck!

Well, I went into the garage today and used a bit of washing up liquid and a bit of patience and they're all fitted! Some of the clips were so tight I had to open them a tad but all seems ok now.. Thanks to everyone that took the time to offer advice - much appreciated..
I know that with new clips I had to slightly pry them, and well the old ones that I tightened the pinch, it either broke or it worked….but I too had to pry them a bit once I tightened them….
Glad you got it sorted.
