Which switched live to use?

Post

Guys

Just in the process of wiring up my VDO'S,

Car currently looks like this

Earths can go on one of the two main earth rings next to the fuse box I assume, I just need to know which switched live to use and what colour it will be.

While I'm here, where are you guys running your wires via into the engine bay and to the senders?

Cheers

Usually they run off the "X" circuit, or load reduction relay.  what I have done in the past for a easy to get to circuit is to use the black/yellow wire off the back of the Demister switch.  It is a 20 amp circuit, and that you can splice in to it easily.

Now for ground you can use the Star clusters on the firewalls or for better use, Drill a small pilot hole int he frame (not the firewall), scuff the area around the hole to bare metal, then attach a ring connector to the wire youare using for ground and screw that into the scuffed area with a sheet metal screw… You get a better fame connection, for your Voltmeter Gauge and it tends to be more accurate to the battery than some of the Star Clusters.  I have had to Splice in a new ground to one of my star clusters as it was acting funny.  I assumed even though it was tight, that there was corrosion between the star cluster and frame that I couldn't see.

I was losing about 1.5V to the Voltmeter in the VDO pod even with different gauges.  So I opted to run the Switch power to a new source (black/yellow demister) and a separate ground.. which resolved the difference I was seeing between a DVOM on the Battery to frame and VDO gauge.

The Demister line is also a good place to power a head unit from….

Oh while you have your dash all apart, Looks good as it is all buttoned up…. Take your blue/black or black/blue un shielded hazard wire and place heat shrink around it so that in the Future you won't blow your turn fuse when Dinking around with it.

It is really close to the itty-bitty ground that too is unshielded and shorts easily.

Cheers Briano,
I found a spare male spade on the back of the fuse box in the end and managed to thread the sender wires in as well.

I should of searched a bit harder really but asked out of panic before the wife came home and hits the roof

I know that one well…."I wish you would pay as much if not more attention to me as you do to your car!"

Yep thats pretty much the usual response.

Im still in the dog house because I convinced her we wanted a wet room rather than a nice carpeted bathroom.

She soon worked out when she came home early one day that I wanted it so I had somewhere to spray my motorbike parts!

If it wasn't for the doghouse I wouldn't have a roof over my head.
