Rusted and seized!!! 🙄

Hi wondered what options do I have. Finally took apart the lump for my car today and found this. Ideally don't want to change as it's the original for my car however the previous owner left the lump out side!! I have put oil on to try and loosen up but some of the bores are pitted.   E4FD8F01-CFCE-457D-A619-14F561F18327.jpeg 6388FB81-7507-43A4-8805-3161577E1453.jpeg .

You could try opening the bores with a hone, check starting dimension and then check new piston rings available , Before you go honing.  Or let a machine shop have it done to standard you want. ££££
You could source a new refurbed engine, and swap numbers on log book.
Or replant to something modern. 8

I think diesel or paraffin are good for loosening a seized piston, pour it in and leave it. You might have to flip it over and repeat from the bottom for no's 1 and 4.

After that - as Ken said, you might get away with honing, but after that it's a rebore with new pistons and rings. At that point you could for a 1.9 rebore or just stick to oem oversize. A rebore will be ~£100, no idea what pistons are these days. Then, as you having that done, you may as well get the crank checked, possibly balance the crank and flywheel. You'll need new big-end bolts as well. I had my block redone with balancing (I had the pistons) and that set me back about £700 inc all the gaskets, shells, rings, bolts, etc.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here
