Waistline trim

Hi . ..

The trim round the waist line on my car is black….

But some was peeling to reveal chrome.
I got exited thinking maybe I could peel it all to reveal the shiny metal but …help..
I am certain it must be two trims
1 black or 1 Chrome middle.
I have sourced some chrome ones mega bucks.. but can not find one in black

It's for the drivers door as it had moved forward and got snapped besides this one is peeling worst.

Ps where else is best to ask in forum

Well you can do what I have seen in the past.

Folks lay in a Piece of Vinyl Tape over the center chromed section.  And you are correct, there was only the Black Chrome from 89 and under, whereas they went solid over the whole thing 91 and up.

When I lost a piece off the door, I had a spare Chrome one (I had solid black) so I did the vinyl till I could source a new to me piece that cost out the posterior.

But I have found that the vinyl tape has to be totally removed off the roll and allowed to return to stretch as it  has a memory that you usually don't see.

Second thing I found for a cover up is: Plastic Dip Spray

It can leave a orange peal, if not shaken well, but I don't know if the Brush on thinned a bit would lay flatter.  It was a really close match to the color of the original.

Ahh yes would coat it however it's split at leading edge
Messaging sellers on ebay and have searched constant over winter

I have been lucky in the past as there were plenty of cars int he Breakers that had it over the years, and I picked up a couple of sets… Some were similar condition as you describe, and well I cut the hardened parts off and gave it to folks needing the center "Chrome" section.  

I have recently changed my waistline trim to chrome as I didn't really like the black trim. The chrome trim fits into the gap on the same clips as the original black trim

Hope is all sorted..  if you feel trims are moving, add a blob of silicon when fitting. Just enough to fix on the plastics clip

Would you like the tube back to keep your other pieces safe.
I have one here similar.
It's a must to protect them and I'm happy to return it to be useful once more.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking for some of the thinner Tin top moldings to fit on my cabby? 
Ideally In chrome?
