Very urgent currently stuck on M20 hard shoulder

Guys I'm hoping you can help me.

Was stuck in almost standstill traffic on the motorway a few mins ago and the old girl started getting warm.

Pulled over to let her breathe for a bit and noticed the throttle pedal was flat to the floor.

Hooked it back up but now the car just starts and dies instantly

What have I done?
It must be related to the pedal, what holds the end of the cable onto the pedal apart from the shape of it?

HELP!!

Hope you get it sorted, bloody horrible stuck on the hard shoulder!

Broken cable, but I suspect that the rubber bushing is failed (part 16) and your cable has come out of the top of the pedal.

If the bushing failed, place the cable back in to the pedal hole and you can use a flat washer or tie-wrap to keep it in place until you get it back home.  A big Washer with a small hole and replace the clip, those little clips can be a really fun thing to get off/on.

After trying to rev the car at the throttle body end it decided to idle and behave itself so I'm assuming there was too much slack in the cable.

From looking under the dash it doesnt look like part 16 was ever there so how it lasted this long I'll never know.

Anyway managed to complete my journey and avoid the rain just about.

Typical!! The only place on ebay that sell them is exactly the same shop in Maidstone I've just visited and driven back home from.

My pedal had a screw cap from a coke bottle on it when I got it.  Remember, what gets you home is not a 'permanent' fix :-)

Well years ago when mine went I used a whittled rubber stopper (already had the hole) from a hardware store, then a large washer on the other side insert the cable on the right and clipped it on the left…. worked really well up to the day they hauled it away as a total……

So sometimes those by the road fixes, or home brewed work as well or better than the oem.

I don’t know if you managed to source the part or not but I bought this from eBay a couple of weeks ago it was only about £2:50 so I thought I’d take a punt.
Turned out to be spot on

Get a Mk2 golf pedal bush as the Mk1 golf ones seem to made of cheese and don't last long, Mk2 Golf pedal bushes are made of rubber and last a long time…

There should be some slack in the cable, there was a guide on here about replacing and setting up the bush/cable.

They have gone up in price… I got mine from GSF for 56p 2 years ago…. try a VW dealer as I think they was about a £1?

One turned up this moring from B&B components and it feels almost solid.

Yes I think the ones from B&B are made of rubber, the mk1 type are made of foam….

You may need to smear a little grease on the bush to push it through the pedal, make sure the bend on the end of cable is at a right angle, you can bend it if it's not.
If there is not enough slack in the cable and you floor it it's the end of cable that bends and it will keep popping out of the bush.

found the thread on adjustment, you can see the foam style bush to avoid in the picture, there’s nothing wrong with the foam bush but I found they don’t last that long…..

Similar happened to me about 3 years ago… pedal stuck to the floor!!! all for a lil rubber… sometimes a rubber goes a long way as for it securing, there should also be a circlip that fits on…

Well that was an absolute pig to fit but got there in the end.
Pedal feels a lot better now though definitely

I used bit rubber grease. I done my caddy and cabrio they pressed in with grips straight away took longer get under dash
