Valve springs

Post

Hi all…

I’m currently restoring an 83 gti that’s been in a barn for just shy of 20 years.

I’m rebuilding the head at the moment but cannot find valve springs anywhere! If any one has a set or can point me in the right direction I’d be very grateful.

Also any other tips or advice would be great as this is my first mk1 and first time going this deep into a resto.

This is the current state…… excuse the ducting… previous tenants in my lock up were umm… keen horticulturists!

Cheers
Dom

Yeah I was planning on re using collets and top and bottom spring cup / caps.

Had head pressure tested, skimmed and new valves lapped in. Have valve stem oil seals just need all inner and outer springs to reassemble

Valve springs

Bit of an update….

The engine in my car is actually an EV. Which from reading on here is identical to the DX apart from a vac port on the head…..?

I have now found springs that will fit a DX so does that mean they will fit the EV head I have? I have part numbers for the springs but nothing to compare that to and cannot find that info online.

Just need to know if dx valve springs will fit an ev head basically.

Thanks
Dom

They'll come at a price, but you can probably get uprated springs from the companies that do camshafts - Kent, Piper, Shrick. Not that you'll need uprated ones, but they won't do any harm.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

Yeah I put a Techtonics Tuning 276 cam in mine and got the updated valve springs while I was at it. Not 100% required for my setup but they weren't that expensive so threw them in anyway.
