Are Low Oil Pressure sensors of different types interchangeable?

Post

Hi All,
I have newly aquired a 1991 Clipper, so this is my first post.  I understand that the low oil pressure sensor on the 1.8 is the one on the side of the head?
I have called Euro Carparts to get a replacement and the one they sent is different to the one fitted.
The one fitted is a screw in plug with a single wire tagh on it.  The one they sent is like a small canister with two tags on the top.  I assume one tag runs an oil pressure guage which I havent got.  Does that matter?  Can i use it anyway with just one side connected?

Thanks All.

If you don't have the VDO gauge set in the lower console, then that one will work, but is a tad expensive.

There are a list of senders at www.cabby-info.com.

The last one that I bought was a pricey item, and it wasn't the correct BAR setting and kept giving erronious readings.  I ended up having to move it to the oil filter flange.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Common for Euro car parts to supply the wrong part as they have with you.
Send it back and get a sensor which looks the same as yours.
The colour of the sensor is also important, blue/black for the sensor on the side of the head and white for the sensor above the oil filter.
The sensors sometimes have the info stamped into the side of them.

speak to the vw dealer, they'll sell you the correct sender for around 18+VAT. or shop around, GSF should be able to get one. it needs to be 0.24 or 0.3 bar
