VIN decoding

Hi guys, well im in the maket for a mk1 GTI or a GTD. Now i've always been playing with e30's and other beemers of that era and it was a blessing to have access to a vin decoder that can tell you wether a car was a sport model and if it had any options fitted from factory. Is there such a thing with the VW scene?

I am currently living in Bosnia and i am aware that there was an assembly plant (TAS) here in the 80's, so would that cause any issues when deciphering vins?

Baiscally, just looking to not get ripped off on a non-gen GTI/GTD

On mk1 golf it is the option label in the boot that is just as important to see what is genuine factory colour/spec/options etc. See this post:
