That super charger noise. !!!

Hi guys. Sorry to keep hijacking this feed but this ones getting right on my t¢¥s.
I've had the car since Xmas and it had a whine when I got it so checked both  timing belt ( which was changed in the service before I got it along with tensioner ) and fan belt. Both seemed at the correct tension so presumed timing belt needed to bed in a bit.
A few weeks past and decided to renew the alternator bearings to eliminate that.
Just fitted new water pump and still sounds supercharged., Have removed fan belt and ran the engine so no water pump or alternator running so that leaves me with can, tensioner, intermediate pulley, or crank. Thinking maybe the tensioner but its hard to tell as the noise seems to come from lower down.
Do these noises ever come from the end of the three shafts?
Is it worth changing the tensioner again?
Any suggestions welcome.

Cam belt is to tight, slacken it off just a little and that should make the noise disappear.

I've tried the cam belt on different tensions. Am I right in saying it should be able to twist through to 90°  between the pulleys as I've had it slightly more and slightly less with no change.

If you have had a cam belt too tight, in the past it can ruin the tensioner bearings.  You could try dribbling wd-40 on the tensioner center and see if the noise changes if it does then you will need to change your tensioner.

I've definitely ran out of ideas now.

Twist through 90 degrees with holding the cambelt in between thumb and 1 finger on the edges of the cam belt.

A different tack since you know it is in the CAM area, then check to see that your upper and lower Cam cover isn't dragging the belt.  I have had a right side motor mount give up, and the engine pitched and allowed the tensioner to scrape the lower cover…. as that is tin, and hollow it sounds awful.  I have also seen the Transmission covers slightly rub the PP. so check those as well.

The timing belt area is as bare as a nudist beach. Have stripped off the upper inner and outer covers, also the lower outer and had to remove the metal cover as well as that started rubbing on the intermediate shaft sprocket when the water pump was changed.
What are the transmission covers and pp that I need to check? Sorry to ask.

The tranny covers are at the rear and lower sides of the transmission bell housing, they prevent FOD from entering the PP clutch.  They are bolted to the housing with a 10mm bolt that can become loose, and the tins can vibrate.

Still working on it I'm afraid mate. Had loosened off the timing belt a bit more and it seemed a bit quieter for a while but now it seems like it was before…
I think I'll just buy a new timing belt kit and fan belt so I can eliminate them.
Fingers crossed..

make sure that your tensioner stud is at 90 degrees to the mount.  If that isn't at 90, then the tensioner will not run the belt centered and that can also lead to noise, and a non-true running tensioner.

Ok mate,keep me posted if you have any joy as it seems we've done  identical things to try get rid of it bit to no avail😩😩 sounded kool to begin with,asif I had a super charger😄 but just bloody irritating now 😩

Tell me about it. Mine sounds like its gonna blow up when I take it up the revs.
Well a new set of belts, tensioner, and as Briano says new stud are on order so will let you know.

O.k. CASE CLOSED.. Got the new fan and timing belts, tensioner and stud. Stuck them on and peace and quiet for the first time in eight months. BLISS!!!!!
Sorry that I can't help you with a specific solution gooner and I know it was an expensive way to cure it but it was worth every penny.
