Snapped Camshaft Bearing Cap stud bolt - part code?

Post

Hey All

I had a great day changing my valve stem seals and was an absolute turnip and forgot to re-dial my torque wrench from 40 to 20 and ended up snapping a bolt!

Anway, lathe to the rescue so I knocked up a new temporary one - pain in the ar$e getting it to the correct tolerance to be a snug fit in the bearing cap not sure if these are made to fit each cap?, had to take it to final dimensions with wet and dry to get the fit as snug as the original.

Can anyone give me the part number or name of this? I can't find it anywhere - I think I have done that thing where you look so hard you can't see it staring you in the face.

Hey!

I thought you were all mind readers? - it's a 1.8GTI DX Engine.

That part code looks like the badger ! - will do a bit more digging! That's set me on the right track 😄

Why not use the one you made. It's probably just as strong.

Very good point, and it definitely is - but I am worried I have overtightened the others as well and maybe added small fractures that will develop over time.

They are only holding 20nm but obviously it's at a pretty critical point on the engine an if one breaks mid-drive then the car will $h1t the bed!  :P

Makes sense, if it would of just been the one though I would of trusted that stud you made all day long.
