Shrinking cabby carpet, repair or replace?

Post

So my carpets in my clipper I believe have been shrunk over the years by water ingress etc, it doesn't quite reach the corner/doorshut on the passenger front footwell and only just reaches on the drivers side, question is can this be taken out wet vacuumed etc to sort it or is it time for a new carpet? I'm picking up some parts from a breaker that has a carpet so may buy that if needed, thanks

I have never tried the wet vac method you suggest.  Depending upon the condition of the carpets in the breaker I would pick those up providing the price is right too!
This kind of problem annoys me so I would be sourcing a replacement set of carpets, plus it will give you the chance to check the floorpan and give it a really good clean.

I'm getting a good replacement 020 gearbox for £70 then can get that and the carpet set for £100 and just bringing the extra cash he's saving them for me incase I want the carpet so sounds perfect, apparently the carpet is only about 8 years old too so should be onto a winner hopefully! if the sound deadening underneath was removed that could explain why it doesnt fit so well

Good point actually will check that out, drivers foot rubber/vinyl is also all worn away and cracked so gives me an excuse to swap it out and a good price can't go wrong really! Also by chance do you know if the carpet is different in a series 1 cab? My 1980 gli carpet is more of a grey colour and different material

IIRC there are some slight differences in the floorpan, something about the sills are not so big or something? the seat front rail is a little different too but I guess it doesnt maker any difference to the carpet.

newton commercial carpets are a pretty decent fit, not 100% but just needs a little more effort to get it in nice

Ahhh okay, just wondered as the carpet in my series 1 is a different texture more like a tough carpet in a house! I'll be taking all of it out to do rust repairs etc anyway and I've looked at the newton commercial ones they do look very good

texture wise might be jusrt down to age, the mk2 gofl carpets changed from deep pile to cheaper thinner pile carpets at some point, I'd assume around the same time the cabby/rocco carpets did too
