Running problems

Post

Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with my 1.8 GTI.

I think one cylinder is being starved of fuel below 2500 revs, a first I thought it was electrical but I've changed plugs leads and dizzy and it's the same.

I've swapped the metering head and it's the same.

Cylinder number two just isn't getting enough fuel at low revs.  I have good equal pressure across all cylinders and as soon as I accelerate and the revs go above 2500 you can feel the engine smooth out and pick up, below those revs it's like driving a tractor.

Any ideas anyone? I've no idea what to look at next.

Could be a dodgy injector. How do you know it's cylinder 2? When you say you've got good equal pressure across all cylinders, have you got a pressure gauge connected to each injector supply connection?

I've individually removed the ht leads from each spark plug and also turned off the fuel supply at the metering head. There's a very obvious effect on the engine idle on cylinders 1 3 and 4 when I do it but on cylinder 2 nothing really changes.

I've not checked the pressure at the injector supply connection, I'll try that tomorrow.

Thanks for replying.
