Removing clips from rear brake line hose (to replace the hose)

Post

Hi All,

My brother is working on an Mk1 Golf Cabrio (Rabbit) in the States, and had a question we were hoping you could help with.  He needs to replace the rear brake lines, but isn't sure how to remove what I believe are retaining clips (see photos below).

Does anyone have any advice on how to remove these to replace the hose?

Thanks!

Tony

When the hose is separated from the line they will literally fall off, they are only held together by the 2 but be careful especially on the rears.

There is every chance that attempt to remove the hose will result in the copper line shearing as the threads will be seized together.

If this happens you'll need to build new copper lines.
There is so little room to do the rears with the axle in place that its easier to just hacksaw through the line and cut off the hose as close to the end as possible and undo them with 2 small sockets imstead

That slight bend in the tube at the back will make removing that nut a tad bit hard.  I have had good luck holding the inner with needle nosed Vice-Grips and a brake-line wrench on the other end….  I would soak those with PB-Blaster or CRC Freeze-off.
