Rate my compression

Hey guys

Trying to track down problems with a 1.8 GTI DX injection that's playing up - having one of those months where fixing one thing causes a problem somewhere else or I end up noticing another problem while fixing something!

What's your thought on these compression results I got - estimated engine millage is 130-140k

Dry test
135-115-110-135

Wet test
145-130-135-155

It's a cheap eBay tester so the accuracy of the gauge is not to be trusted but obviously it will be out on all cylinders the same so we are really looking at the differences in compression not what pressure it's achieving.

Do these variances look okay for a 35 year old engine with 130+k miles on it?

Fyi on the double post - I don't know if it's just me but on my phone the website just stops responding so I leave it to upload - then my phone locks because I have been inactive - then when I unlock it again it opens up the internet and posts it again! It's super frustrating!!! And it only happens on here.

Can't help you with the question you've posted but my phone is doing exactly the same thing, both on WiFi and mobile date.

We are working on it.
We had a failing disk on our server that had been causing a lot of the slow response issues.
We are also being attacked by (mainly Chinese) scanning bots, which put our server under tremendous load and hence the slow down.
There has been lots of optimisation and bot blocking done this week, with more to follow over the next week to continue to improve things.
You should notice that page loads are faster now and the forum post write time is better, we are working to optimise it even further.

Thanks for the explanation and your efforts, they do seem to be working. The Forum is a ton faster today.

I can remember years ago I was fighting an intermittent system drive once….I just happened to be there when it acted up after getting there after the fact for a few weeks.  Backed up the data, pulled the old drive out, placed it on the floor, and kicked it across the floor and against a wall…The operator looked shocked and asked why I had done that.  To which I replied, I wanted to make it bootable…… and prevent it from getting in the parts rework chain… . We both had a good laugh… back then they were 40mb full height drives…..yep been wrenching on these critters a while…

Yeah I would say your compression is an issue in the middle cylinders they should be pretty equal across the four.
My little 1.1 tintop (mk2 1.05) engine is 138 on all cylinders and the 1.8 cabby is 150 on all cylinders the cabby is around 140000 miles and I thought fairly knackered till I done the test and was surprised by the results.
