Oil Light and Buzzer....

Post

not the normal issue on the searches.....

Hi all,

i know there are numerous posts ref oil light and buzzer however I cant find a post with the issue I have.....

No light or buzzer as start up, nor tick over.....

can drive up and down motorway with no issue (which i did from gloucester for an hour), however once the engine has warmed up and you stay in gear and coast, the buzzer will come on , rev it or drop a gear the light goes off....

am i right in thinking this is oil pressure and i need a new pump?

cheers all

Could very well be that, it is best to have a mechanical check of the oil pressures with the car up to temp.

The Electrical measurement of oil pressure while better than nothing isn't a "True" measure, and they are prone to variations of electrical flow, bad grounds or power that a Mechanical Gauge isn't.

The Flashing light and Buzzer can be that your (Usually White) High RPM/Low Pressure switch may be faulty or a bad connection.  I first suggest that if you haven't replaced that sensor do so.  Second verify that the wire that is attached to it isn't corroded or loose, and that the wire is intact.

On my 90 cabby after about 1 hours of driving of a 5 hour drive the light and buzzer came on but my oil pressure gauge didn't indicate that I had a pressure issue, pulled off the side of the road and the connection had broken the wire off right below the rubber boot.

Strip and Twisted the wire and all was happy.

The oil pump has a Pressure Relief By-Pass Valve that can cause issues on Older pumps, you can replace the pump easily enough with the 2.0 upgraded pump 36mm gears vs 32mm.  This will increase the flow of oil, and I haven't had issues with flaky lights or warnings.  The Caveat is that you have use your older pick up tune, so the 2.0 pump will directly fit, and longer bolts if you don't have a 90'ish Cabriolet.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
