Oil filter bracket

Post

Had a massive oil flood all over my 1991 Cabby GTI engine bay last week, and I think I need to replace the oil filter bracket, oil cooler, gaskets etc. I think I need number 1 from the image in the link below - anyone know where I can get one?

As the buzzer and oil light came on, the engine's probably ruined anyway, but it's worth a go.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

The Water Jacket oil stabilizer/cooler? had a o-ring seal that is prone to go and dribble oil everywhere.

It is very easy to replace, but I would suggest that you replace the cooler as well.

On the 90-ish Cabriolets over here they did away with the oil/stabilizer/cooler… So I installed an external Oil Cooler which works to cool my oil when the oil is above 95 degrees C.  I have also noticed that at Highway speeds I never see my oil above 115 degrees…..

The issue that I have with water coolers is that there is another way that they can fail and Simulate a blown head gasket or intermix oil into the A/F as the oil pressure is usually always higher than the cooling systems pressure.

It may be that your engine to filter flange gasket gave up the ghost, or that your filter wasn't tight enough.  I have also seen sensors leak.

VWheritage will help you on the gaskets and such.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks very much for the reply - I've ordered the gasket, seal and oil cooler from heritage, and will hope I don't need the bracket just yet.
