Post

Good afternoon gentlemen …
Good day from a sunny, but very windy Cape Town .
Lets jump right in at the deep end … During a very careless reversing maneuver, i hit a lamp post … Heres the catch.. I hit the pole while reversing ,to the left, at full lock … So ,I managed to hit aforementioned lamp post with the RHS whee, and first reaction was, boy Im lucky …
Long story short, about 5 minutes later ,noise ,coming from the valve train … Lhs when facing the engine …
Along with that … Low oil pressure …
What happened? I mean, I know what happened, but HOW ?
Its a 2003 Citi 1600 i …
Any help please!

Did you crack something and lose all the oil from the engine? If so, how long did the engine run with no oil?

Hi … Thank you for the response …
I drove bout a kilometer ,after the 'incident', then the noise started … Was in the middle of nowhere, so I took on the 5 or so kilometers home …. Gently ….

This was abouy two months ago … A bit of credit my way, for not attempting to drive the car since then … Had a mechanic check it out in that period .. Bearing knock ,according to him …

While Im no expert, Im a bit weary … On doing the whole bottom end … If its not necessary, I mean … I know what noisy lifters etc sound like , and honestly … I dont hear no knocking ,coming from thr bottom of the engine … All noise on top …
I guess im just looking for some guidance …

I can't do better than a mechanic who has looked at the car.

Hydraulic tappets can make a real clatter when they're worn and can sound like a bearing, if your engine has them check them first before anything..
Try taking the valve cover off and turning the engine over until two cam lobes are pointing up then pushing down on the followers, they shouldn't move, do that for each cylinder.
