What is it

Hello
All was working before i put the car in the garage
Car is a Y reg 1982 cabby GTI

What works ?
everything car starts runs but i have no Battery light or Oil Light on the led display when i turn the ignition on, other leds work main beam, indicators,
Temp gauge flashes and goes out and car runs okay,
I have tested with a voltmeter across the battery and its charging, i have checked all the fuses and they are all fine,

What wires do i check please or what would you check first ?
I cannot see anything obvious, could really do with a wiring diagram  please but dont knwo where to look

Help Please Thanks

I'm no expert but if you've checked everything else, and it's all ok, it could possibly be a fracture in the printed circuit board.

I'm not sure if they can be repaired - although it maybe possible to solder a bridge across the fracture.

Other more knowledgeable guys on here might have a better idea.

Good luck

When you say it is broken, let me ask you this.  Does the battery lamp in the cluster go on then off at start once the car is running?

The oil lap on the cluster is from the sending unit as it has 12V on it and the sender supplies the ground.

So the battery is charging what is the voltage on the battery when the car is running, 12V or less or 13.5 which should be normal.

The blue exciter wire on the back of the Alternator plug
is what is needed to power the lamp.  If the lamp normally will light as you are using the battery to start the car and the cluster voltage on the exciter wire is 12v as it is coming from the battery through the cluster, and starts the field coils to charge.  Once they have been tickled and the alternator starts to produce voltage and current, the diode in teh cluster is reverse biased and goes out as the output of the alternator exceeds the bias on the LED and it turns off.

Now I would test them first by placing a 9vdc battery on the respective pins on the back side of the cluster to the
crimps for the leds.

The little crimps in the middle are the lamp sockets.
apply 9volts on one then neg on the other if it lights then you have other issues with  the wiring if it doesn't then reverse the lead to the socket and place ground on the other side and positive to the other.

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
