I presume it's a frame swap you're looking at? Personally I'd never put second hand on just because it's just that.. There's 3 different frames for a start and you ideally  need one from the same year car. How do you know the condition of the replacements you're looking at swapping? Why not just put a new top on.
Let's say what you put on is no good leaks etc then that's money you've spent that could of been put towards new stuff. Roofs have a finite life and tears are usually a sign of wear which will only get worse.
It's like replacing a broken tile on your house roof with one that's still broken but not as bad. I've seen folks spend loads on second hand stuff only to end up replacing with new.

I agree that most repairs are temp things…
Tops finite as to life, and well you can try to patch it with colored Duct Tape to Match, it is still a patch. A little goes a long way, but it still will leak.

Replacing the outer skin isn't that costly if you go vinyl…
But chances are you need a new rear cable as well as side cables, then is the pad re-usable and the condition of the head liner….

Hopefully you will get a new roof, and it will last a wee bit……….oh, don't wait till winter if you don't have a heated garage that can get up to 75 degrees F.

Not that marriage isn't a bad thing, but a future wife must know her limits…(don't buy her a cast iron skillet, as they hurt like heck when they impact your cranium…)

I have been working on my first divorce for about 40 years…..just saying.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Briano1234  you got me at the Cast Iron Skillet….
I still laughing now.

Hortonwolfe27  by the time you've bought 2 frames or more you could have had a new mohair roof fitted.
If winter is stressing you mate buy a cover for the car.
