I recently built my clocks, took them all apart, the needles came off as one of them had snapped so I superglued it back together and painted. I have my speedo caliberated correctly however I have no idea how to set my rev counter. I need it sorting because I'm tuning my engine tomorrow with a gas tester and a strobe to get it to 1.5% CO and sparking at 6 degrees before tdc. I'm going to attempt to tune it to 1000rpm. This is where my needle is sitting at the moment and it doesn't feel shaken.  IMG_4563.JPG

Does the needle sit on 0 when the engine is switched off?

IMG_4563.JPG Edit* it's just below zero. It seems idle between the two tiny marks around 1000 rpm. When it's cold it idles at the mark beneath and when it's warm it idles at the one above.

Your speedo needle isn't sitting correctly, you have to place it on the right of the stop then carefully lift it over the stop so it rests on the stop not above it.  The Speedo has a Clock spring on it and you have to preload that spring.

The Tach is off, if you are at 6BTDC on a Strobe light, then your Tach in Neutral should be at 750 for a manual and 950 for an automatic.  When the Temp is up, and the radiator fan cycles once.  Cold it should be at 1000 to 1100, warm 750 for manuals and 950 for an auto in when in park or neutral.  You may need to get a DVOM that has a Rev Counter on it to get your needles to the proper position on the tach….Been there done that a time or two.

Since it looks like you took the Face Plates some one placed on the gauges faces, then you need to remove the needles and carefully replace them.  The Speedo Needle as you know is pried carefully off the stud.  I use a pair of curved Hemostats or Forceps on the sides of the pin to the ROUND part of the needle from underneath.  I have had the Pin base come off with the needle,,,, So as you found out care must be taken.

A little 80/10 rubbing alcohol should remove the glue residue, but use q-tips or cotton swabs to gingerly remove the residue.

IMG_3442.JPG IMG_3443.JPG they sit like this now and my idle is on the lower notch near 10 when cold and the upper notch when warm I got a gas tester too and had 1.5% co ish when doing it is this all good? The sound you helped me with in past posts is still there? That pinking sound?? IMG_3437.PNG

Sorry to hijack the post , but just want to ask briano a question, basically my speedo needle sits on the stop, but it shows me 10 mph more when I drive, do I have to pry if the needle and place it on the right of the stop then pry it over or is my issue totally different, sorry again just thought Il ask hope you get yours sorted harry

You do have to pry it over, it preloads the spring.. I think that's the purpose of the stop? I did that and mines perfectly aligned… ohh and there is a small white mark showing you where to wind the needle from I'll see if I can get a pic

with the rev counter if you suspect the needle is off see if your clocks have the secret menu, if they do you can compare it to the digital rpm gauge:
