Mk1 1.5 carb. ‘82. Tin top. Boot/gator identification

Hi,

Proud new owner of a little rabbit.
Shes not the best but still very good.

Ive noticed a torn gator or boot and im going to have a punt at sorting it out. Pictures shot from under the car. It would be great if anyone could identify the component and offer any advice on replacement.

Im not the most mechanically minded… so any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

That's your steering rack gaitor.

I recently did both sides on my Cabrio.

On the right side I removed the track rod end to be able to slide the gaiter on. On the left side the track rod end and the track rod itself are all one part, I removed and replaced with a rod and end same as right side, or, you could release the rod from the rack to get the gaiter on. The rods just screw into the end of the rack.

You have to have the tracking (toe angle) re set afterwards at an alignment shop.
