Hi everyone
So this morning I replaced my dizzy cap and rotor arm on my 92 cabby hoping it would solve the misfire the car has picked up. When I rev the car it seems struggle and then when I tap the accelerator peddle it then back fires. The car has not long been serviced. Does anyone have any idea what i could do to try and eliminate?

Bad hv wire, and or plugs come to mind as well as timing. What type of plugs are in it now?
Digifant or Carbed is also another question.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Sorry mate its digifant, i replaced the plugs with bosch ones from euro car parts, the timing was corrected a couple of month back as it was out. The person who changed my belt didn't do it correctly so I had to pay someone else to get it right.

Friends don't let friends use BOSCH….. I got two sets of Bosch Triple Plats that had one bad in one set, and 2 bad in the other I switched to NGK
Single Plat BPR5EGP (#7082)
Triple plat BP6ET (#1263)
I will tell you there was a world of difference in the engine when I put the new NGK.
I had a mis-fire, decided that it was time for a tuneup, got new plugs cap and wires….
Original issue was a bad plug wire….
If I hadn't had a spare car to swap wires and caps over I would still be fussing with it. Cap with one bad wire, new plug set with one bad plug on different wire… new set of plugs when I saw that one didn't have any fire res on the end, Ohmed it and it was open…..So get a new set, but this one had 2 bad plugs and all of a sudden I had 3 skipping cylinders…. Glad my other car showed up. New Set of wires, and NGK plugs as Screw BOSCH and VAROOOOOOOOOOM.
Bosch has gotten a little lacking on QC of parts….Don't trust them for filters, after oil change and flickering light at idle from hades….then the Plug issue……
BOO BOSCH

Brian you are an absolute start mate, I’ll pick some NGK plugs up over the weekend and give that a whirl, fingers crossed that solves the problem if not it’s back to the drawing board haha.
Thanks again

As far as I know there alright, how would I know if they was faulty or if they need replacing? Best place for new HT leads?

How do they look? I'd replace them regardless of you never have.
Sometimes you can see bad ones arcing if you watch under the bonnet in the dark.
Heritage will sort you out.. buy the best you can afford can afford… I've had cheap ones that are bad out of the box.

Yeah that’s true for what it is I’ll just replace them, am I better off going for the magnecor ones? I have some blue ones on it at the minute no idea what make they are. Can’t see much but I’ll definitely replace them.

I've been using Bosch plugs and leads for about 20 years and never had a new bad plug or lead, I use the 4 prong plugs like this.
https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf+Cabriolet_1.8_1989/p/car-parts/regular-service/car-service-parts/spark-plugs/?408330010&1&d474aada81a341b2b530705f536fb89d782adb5a&000301
My car is a daily drive so 10,000 miles a years I've been through a few sets in my time and I've a Mk1 Scirocco which also fitted with Bosch ignition system….
HT leads do need replacing every 3-4 years or 20,000 - 30,000 miles so do get overlooked so if yours are old get a new set.
Your dissy looks dirty, give it a clan between the leads and you can very slight pull up the rubber boot on the HT lead and make sure it’s nice and tight on the dissy/plug then push the boot down to make a nice seal to keep the damp out. Do not pull on the very end of the HT lead or you will pull the metal end off, I’ve done this… and you will need a new lead.
How old is the dissy and rotor arm?

I've never tried more expensive HT leads as very happy with performance of my car and can't really see much benefit as my car seems to keep up with most modern cars (hello Mr BMW driver… )

I will try them 4 prong plugs I just got the ordinary Bosch plugs, also I’ve just ordered them Bosch HT leads from eBay too so I can only eep eliminating until this problem is solved.
I changed my dizzy cap a couple of days ago but I can’t seem to find a 10mm rotor arm, the only ones I’ve seen say they are for only 1.1-1.3, does this make any difference? I’m not really clued up on it to be honest I just enjoy driving them haha.

Is this like your rotor arm?
https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf+Cabriolet_1.8_1991/p/car-parts/major-service/car-service-parts/rotor-arm/?405330140&1&e682219b898f4a306b5f4f449d04126c035af1b4&000288
I think I used one like this when I had a Mk2 Golf Gti with the digifant fuel injection system on a PB engine but it was 10 years ago….
Do you have a local euro car parts you can order click and collect (as you get the discount) but not pay online then when you go and collect take in your rotor arm to double check it's correct?

Yeah it looks the same as that mate, that’s the one I originally purchased but the shaft is 14.4mm I need 10mm, I asked them for any others and they didn’t have any with a 10mm shaft.

Very strange…. I checked mine but it's on my 1988 DX car and the hole in the rotor arm which fits the dissy shaft is about 13mm….
Try a search a local motor factors or if you have a local Bosch stockest ask them?
Beru are also a good make….
Or try and call here as they are very helpful, they have updated there website and not all they sell I'd listed so a email or phone call is probably better.

Ideally what I need to do is take the arm off and see if it has a part number hopefully that would point me in the right direction? It’s strange because my bottom end is a DX so would of thought it would be the same but it’s not.
I’ll give them a ring on Monday as well see if they stock the rotor arm cheers Mark

Could be someone has changed the dissy as if you remove the clamp they just pull out...
