Two questions:
1. Is is just a case of replacing the bulbs hopefully and if so is there an LED upgrade I could use?
2. Whilst the instrument panel is out, any other jobs I should undertake?
(I imagine Briano1234 knows all about this from what I’ve seen of his electronic-related posts!)

The Red Gear on the end of the ODOmeter shaft may not be missing the teeth but could be slipping on the shaft and a drop of Super Glue can fix it usually.
If the gear is missing Teeth, then you have to buy a new one. You will need to know how many teeth yours has.
While you have your cluster out, you need to add another ground point to your cluster and I have a thread on that as to how to add a additional ground, as well as how to repair your flaky water temp gauge, and you might as well tend to that as it may come back to haunt you later.
my how to's are in the Archive section, just click the link in my signature.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Jobs whilst the instrument panel is out
Couple of other questions if I may:
1. My clock tends to fade in and out. Is it worth replacing the display? I did read today elsewhere that a lack of internal light can cause this. Is that right? I was actually lacking a light but fitted one recently and it does seem better but not 100%.
2. I have a non MFA 1980 1600 gti. Is it a lot of work to convert over to an MFA version? Appreciate the indicator stick would need change for a end push button type but much else?
Thanks again
