HISTORY?

I have been restoring my mk1 GTI for nearly 4 years on and off, and its now at the point where it can be taken for MOT.

the issue being, I applied for a log book but, didn't have the reg number, spoke to DVLA and they said apply anyway, some weeks later I had a response saying no information found, and would need to register the vehicle and would need to be inspected, which it has and all was ok. I've even got the "birth certificate" from VW in Germany, with all of the import details etc.

I would really like to establish the original reg number, I have the VIN, but that is no longer on any parts database, does anyone know a way to obtain this through VW uk?? alternatively to establish the year of manufacture, this will need an endorsement from an owners club, who would be the best person to talk to.

hope someone can help or at least steer me in the right direction.

I've put a lot of work into it and just want to do whats best (see before and after pics)

I'd say that if the DVLA have no record of your VIN then your only way will be to trace the owners of the car - do you have no history at all?
