golf mk1 1.1 engine start problem

hi guys, i own a 1982 golf mk1 1.1 gl, and i've been having problems with my engine start.
When i start the car i have to bump the acceleration IMG_20191105_161946.jpg IMG_20191117_155711.jpg pedal once or two times to idle, but that did not always happen. When i purchased the car a couple of years ago it used to start very well.. The car died a couple of times due to the carb issues about 2 years ago, but i have cleaned it properly and put everything back just the way it was but it developed this problem.
The car runs very nice, it idles normally, the only problem it has it is the starting.. could this be from the starter motor? when the engine is hot it seems it would start from first but you can hear a weird noise from the starter and you have to press the acceleration again to idle.
I would appreciate a couple of suggestions, Thanks

This sounds like what happened with my mk2 polo. I tried checking the carb and a load of stuff and in the end it was my starter. it just got worse and worse and the cold weather didn't help and like yours it would start perfectly fine once it was hot. in the end I had my starter motor reconditioned and didn't have the same issue and only times it would struggle was when it got really exceptionally cold but then again I live at the top of a hill and it snows here at times even when its not snowing in the city centre. Hope this is of some help
