Gasket cooling end of head

Post

Hi I can’t find the gasket listed that goes between the head and the housing on the end that holds the temp switch and feeds the heater matrix.

1.6 petrol gti. It’s a simple oval gasket with two holes like an old fashioned thermostat housing gasket

Just need to get one by the Wednesday so I can rebuild the cooling system ready for a drive out on Friday.

I know it will be pennies when I can find one. Thx

Don't quote me on this but it could be an O-ring and not a gasket. I wanted a gasket for my 1.8GTI for the coolant flange that the top rad hose goes on to and when I took it apart it was a rather squashed O-ring.
Worst case is that you have to buy some gasket paper and make one. I've made a couple of gaskets this way and it's quite easy.

Definitely not an o ring already removed the little alloy piece. I was thing of getting my little hammer out and some gasket paper. Haven’t done that for 25 years so could be fun.

Last year I made my first gasket since 1989, at least this time I was prepared and bought some gasket paper before I started! Back in ‘89 I had to use a cornflakes box!

Haha. I was seriously considering cutting up the coco pops box earlier and had to stop myself as I have time to get some gasket paper.

Nothing wrong with a cereal box gasket, they last at least long for you to get a proper one maybe longer than the proper one!

Most but not all later 1.8 engines have the plastic flange with the rubber O ring, the early engines, 1.6 have the metal flange with the paper gasket.
