Front hubs/callipers. Front brake upgrade?

Post

I own a 1980 gls that's had a v5 conversion which currently needs new front callipers. However I'm having a bit of trouble working out which callipers I need.
I read on another post that all mk1 hubs have separate carriers that can be unbolted, but mine are cast on to the hub. So I'm assuming that my hubs are from an earlier mk2 8v. If this is the case then would I need mk2 239mm front callipers?

I've also been considering the idea of upgrading to 256 or 280mm which would obviously mean I would need to get different front hubs. Can anyone tell me what parts I would need to get in order to do this? The master cylinder and servo have already been upgraded when the conversion was done.

I think it is the other way around, original Mk1 carriers are part of the hub and it is the later Mk2 brakes that have a separate caliper carrier that bolts on.  Looking at your other post, it looks like you have original Mk1 calipers.

The carriers are the tricky bit to find, typically from Scirocco 16v and Audi B2 coupes and saloon quattros.  They are going for big money now on eBay, saw a set recently for £250 just for the carriers.

"£250 just for the carriers."
Wow!
That's a better return than most of my investments

Back on topic - I know that you can use certain Vauxhall parts I don't know the detail as I'm using Audi carriers (bought a looooong time ago for about £30). Might be worth a search on the forum as it is a popular conversion.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

So I think that these are the same type of caliper as mine.

The thing that confuses me are the two bolts that look like you are able to unbolt the carrier part.

I think the calipers themselves are fine and that I just need to get a new set of rubber sleeves for the pins. Would either of these be what I'm after?

Or this if I want to replace all the rubber seals, piston and bleed nipples.
