Front Grill ??

Post

Hello !

I have vw golf mk1 cabriolet 1991, it has that dual round light front grill. I wan to change it to single round grille with badge.

Someone told me that from years 1974-1983 manufactured mk1 grilles will fit to the new one but its somehow a bit different size?

Can somebody help is that older grill different size and what kind of modifications would i need to do ?

Direct swap.

The older grill is in three pieces though. Centre section and two number end pieces that go around the lights at either end.

No modifications are required, simply unscrew the old and screw in the new (older) one

Make sure you wrap up the spot light wiring out of the way, also a good idea to put in the loom sockets into plastic bags so no water gets into them

they will fit but you will need to either weld the square holes up in the front panel or find the clips that fit into them as the 3 piece grill has 2 screws to hold the light bezels on and later 1 piece grill has clips where the lower screw would go so has a hole there. the clips can be found on caddys as had the earlier grill fitted to the late front panel. also the fixings at the top are slightly different as the middle are 2 clip in.
