Brake hose fitting issues
I am currently over hauling my front brakes and I am fitting the brake hose and seem very very tight and I don't want to damage them I put the old hoses in and they wouldn't go in either.
The hose I have got for this overhaul is from VW Heritage and the part number matches to the diagrams I am using (171611701L)
https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/171611701l-front-brake-hose-335mm.html
the brakes which I have are ATE brakes - for reference
So the questions I am asking are: -
1. Are they supposed to be so tight or are they quite loose when they go in ?
2. Are they fitted with copper washers ?
Many thanks for you help

They should be fully tight when finished.
Make sure that you don't have a twisted coil at the end. The Brake line is secured and straight fromt he fitting oh the hose to the hard line to the Caliper.

Could be the thread on the caliper or hose is wrong? Manufacturer defect.
It should not be 'very' hard. It is can be very hard if the threads are wrongs. First thread picks up then subsequent ones are very hard if the thread types are wrong.
If you manage to fit the hose and it leaks then you will need to fit copper washers (on the caliper end). Do not use white tape to rely on sealing because the PTFE will dissolve due to the solvents in the brake fluid and leak after a few weeks.

where would you put the copper washers ?
There are no copper washers that I know of in the Braking system.
Copper washers or (crush) washers are used mainly in CIS, and Diesel Fuel systems, that rely on Banjo fittings.

Maybe on the rears front ones are male and female fitment or am I missing something herepaceman said
It's ultimately a threaded union, the copper washer goes between the hex bit on the flexi and the caliper. But unless the caliper has been faced you'd really need to crush the washer hard to get a seal on it. For brakes the seal should be on the taper and the corresponding taper at the bottom of the hole (if that makes sense). Unless it's a rather old car that uses banjo fittings to the caliper (eg an MGA).
