First Startup since full rebuild - issues

Afternoon All.
So I’ve tried to start my cabbie up since I rebuilt the engine.. well it’s a little hit and more miss..

I can get the engine to start up if I lift the CIS sensor plate up a little it starts.. reva a little all over the shop but it goes but this I guess due to the air pipe missing off the inlet..

So what up with it when it’s all back together..
What’s am I missing?

Only other things is I’ve got a small leak on the external swirl pot / filter ??

I’ve had a look around on here but I could see anything ?? Could the whole K Jet need to be rebuilt ?

When you say full rebuild, you probably need to give more details. Could be anything from stuck plunger in metering head to faulty WUR or just needs mixture set.

Ah I see no worries

The whole car has been stripped back, sand blasted and then been completely repainted in a new coat of Apline white..

As for the engine it was pull head taken of clean, skimmed and new head gasket. New end seals, put back together, timing checked, new clutch, etc then put back into the car.

The wiring has been put back in with some work done to the left engine loom as the ground cable and the fan and horns were all dead. These have been new cables, pins, connectors.

It’s got a  complete new exhaust as the last one was rusted though. As for the fuel system, it’s got a new tank, lines, pumps, injectors etc.

Anything that was leaking or was old was replaced.. with

As for the starting problem.

If I lift the plunger in the j ket I get a good head of fuel push out of all injectors. I’ve check the spark plugs to make sure they are good too.

As I said I’m able to start it by removing the pipe between the inlet and k jet. Then lifting the plunger up while turning the key.. this does kick the engine into life.. but no dice when it all put back together.. I get no fuel at the injectors..

5th injector working?

measure fuel pressure too…you say you replaced injectors, they might need bleeding too but should be ok.

I reckon you're down on fuel pressure and that's causing the issues.

I’ve unplugged it and tried again but didn’t do anything.. I guess a full test would be to test it removed from the side of the manfold..

Pressure.. so think there could be a leek somewhere or one of the pumps or a line that’s blocked ?

Removing 5th injector is very easy, its definitely worth checking it.

Removing the other injectors is more involved, hence the suggestion to check the fuel pressure. If that's ok and still not running, then they would be next to check. But if the fuel pressure isn't okay, there's a number of other things to check obvs.

Ok so I got myself a fuel pressure testing kit.. eBay special so.. take what you can..
Connected into the line on the CIS as the Haynes said.
I get 8 psi of pressure..

The guide the came with it states 49-55psi
So I’m well off that..

Hard to tell where you've connected in, but the gauge needs to be plumbed in to the WUR supply line and needs a shut-off valve. System pressure should be 5bar and cold control pressure should be around 1 bar rising to 3.2bar I think as it warms up.

There's loads of info online if you search K-jet pressure testing.

CIS is @ 75psi from the pump, Digifant is the 40-45psi….

Check the output from the Pump.

First off thanks for everyone help on this..
I’m pleased to report I’ve got it’s started this.
So to update this thread so it might help others..

So the car did have low or no fuel pressure this was caused by lack of fuel and the pump. Changed the pump over and added extra fuel.. this then gave me good pressure..

At this point it still didn’t start which was down to the 5th injector not working which well was caused by bad wiring.. the troubleshooting was easy with a good multimeter plus the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual.

It’s just needs to have the timing done as it’s running a little lumpy.
