I know covered before but old threads

Hi I have a mk1 1.3 with rieger body kit on my car, which I did when 17, now 47! It's been sitting in garage for long time. I moved to Spain 15 years ago and brought it here. Big mistake, paper work here is pain in the backside Anyway now I want to put kit on another Spanish golf as can't get mine done over here as no emissions on paper dlvc, wonder why.lol even my cabby I bought does not have it on!  Anyway very long story, cut short which engine should I go for. I can also get vr6 for 900 but I think to much weight and very expensive parts from eurowise.

Engine swop

So it seems like you can actually swap swap for swop! Who knew?

Not sure what you mean but most the dictionary agree with you if that is what you are implying. I think we are splitting hairs though IMG-20201202-WA0009.jpg
I will change to conversion rather than swop.

Splitting hairs, I though that if you used conditioners that wouldn't happen.  :)

Any Swop or Swap is going to involve deep diving in to the wiring diagrams for each car that your engine is out of.  The 16V DOHC is a Cabby favorite, and the wiring diagrams are all in the Bentley one Book.  The 16 V doesn't entail massive body work to support it, whereas the TDI is mounted differently and will require body mods to get it to fit, getting it to run is going to entail changing over most of your electricals for engine management as well so ECU's and harnesses are a gimme.

This isn't as easy as changing a 948CC Bug-eye engine for the 1100 or 1245….  :)

There are plenty of how-to;s on the 16V change, and how to make it work.

I haven't seen too many TDI swaps done.  But I have seen a NorthStar V8 placed in a Golf, but they had to Widen the body and modify the heck out of it.  But it did look nice when it was finished.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
