Engine swop

Hi I have a mk1 1.3 with rieger body kit on my car, which I did when 17, now 47! It's been sitting in garage for long time. I moved to Spain 15 years ago and brought it here. Big mistake, paper work here is pain in the backside Anyway now I want to put kit on another Spanish golf as can't get mine done over here as no emissions on paper dlvc, wonder why.lol even my cabby I bought does not have it on!  ( Which was another of my threads was it possible to put on cabrio, no not really doors are different. Anyway very long story,cut short which engine should I go for.
I can also get vr6 for 900 but I think to much weight and very expensive parts from eurowise.

550 for 1.8 dohc or any other ideas.
